..In Ca. what happens durring a "check to see if a child lives in a home"?
..My daughters friend is on welfare and just moved in with her tot a few days ago. I was just informed by her that CPS or Welfare, is comming today at 12:30 to check my home and make sure she is living with her child. I have a few messy kids of my own. Do I need to do a painic clean of every room? What are they going to look at?
Ok so I'll get more to the point. Will they look in every room? My kids are all teenagers, Our garage, we NEVER use, is wall to celing with stuff, because everyone we know uses it for their free storage. I suspect from the smell, and the flys, our cats have popped in there. We clean it out 1 time a year and it takes all weekend. Its kept locked. If her tot dosn't have access to it, will it still need to be checked? Or are they just going to come to my door and ask if she lives here with her tot?
Just inform them of the situation of the garage. It's better to tell them straight up rather then try to find the words, and stutter about it, which makes it seem rather concerning (which you don't want). I would clean up the place a little bit, maybe vacuum, clean up the toys, the big things (not like you have to dust and polish everything to the dot...lol). Just look from the doorway into the house, and act as if you were the one judging the place. Think of some things that would pop up.
Put yourself in the welfare persons' footsteps and look as if they would into your house. They are only their to keep the child in a clean and well maintained household because they don't want the children living in some shack with dishes all over the place, food and mold, you know, the worst possible.
